Holly & Gina
Holly and Gina go to Great Lengths …
Mother-daughter duo, Holly and Gina, have signed up to swim in Team Domenica’s newest event: Great Lengths. They are working as a team to fundraise and reach their target distance of 1.2 kilometres.
This fantastic pair have a strong connection to the charity, with Holly being a first-year candidate in our employment programmes. She is a keen baker and talented artist. In fact she creates many of the delicious cakes at Café Domenica and even designed our Christmas card last December!
We caught up with Holly and Gina to discuss their swim challenge; here is what they had to say…

Hi! How does it feel to be participating in this event together?
It will be great fun to do something together and between us we can complete the lengths challenge support each other along the way. We can also take it in turns if we need breaks and have a giggle as we go.
And what do you enjoy about swimming? How does it make you feel?
Swimming helps us to feel light and free and makes us feel very calm and relaxed. Holly loves swimming in the sea and swimming pools. We cannot wait to try out the new Sea Lanes and swim with a view of the sea right next to us.
Will you be training for the event? If so, how?
We plan on doing some lengths at our local pool to train us up for the event. However, just before the challenge, we’re also going on holiday to Portugal where there is a pool and we will go swimming with Dolphins – so we’ll make plenty of use of that time to get ourselves ready for Great Lengths!
Why are you fundraising for Team Domenica?
Holly is currently a Team Domenica candidate in her first year. The experience has been an amazing challenge for her and the support from all of the Team Domenica staff has been incredible, to both Holly and our whole family. Holly has started to realise there is a future for her and thanks to the training and support she has found a real love for baking and wants to be a baker in the future.
And what would you say to someone thinking about getting involved in Great Lengths?
Take the plunge and join us at the Great Lengths challenge, not only will you get to swim in an amazing new facility but you will be raising money for such a vital cause that will be used to help Holly and other young people with learning disabilities.
Holly and Gina have inspired you to get in the water – whether you’re a solo swimmer or triumphant team – our new event ‘Great Lengths’ is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself whilst also fundraising for young people with learning disabilities.
