Grants and Philanthropy
Since we first opened the doors of our training centre, the generosity of philanthropic individuals and groups have been allowing Team Domenica to transform the employment prospects of young people with learning disabilities across Sussex. Since 2016, an incredible 81% of our candidates have achieved paid work – compared to a national employment rate for adults with learning disabilities of just 5%.
Reasons to give a gift
By giving a philanthropic gift of £5,000 or more, you will be supporting young people with learning disabilities to access our successful employment programmes – gaining the skills, confidence and independence to enter paid work and find their place in society.
We deliver a range of programmes that currently need funding:
Candidates access work experience in our four training cafés across Brighton & Hove, where they develop the skills, confidence and independence to progress into external workplaces. Last year, 95% of candidates felt that their café training is preparing them for work.
I’ve learnt communication, customer service, and brought out that I can talk to new people really well. Training in the café will help me achieve my dreams of working in a hotel because I love proving people wrong and showing them I can do it.
Theo, Team Domenica Candidate
Specialist Training Mentors support candidates at every step of the way, empowering them to flourish across all aspects of our programmes. Last year, 98% of candidates felt supported in their learning by their Training Mentors.
I have gained successful employment as an Apprentice Chef! Without Team Domenica this would have never happened. A special thanks to Phoebe, my mentor, for having my back all the way.
Tim, Team Domanica candidate
Our expert Employment Centre works with over 50 employers across Sussex to create meaningful work experience, Supported Internships and paid employment opportunities, which work for both candidates and businesses. Since 2016, 81% of candidates have progressed from Supported Internships into paid work.
Both Pizza Pilgrims and Team Domenica have given me the opportunity to show my skills. I love being part of the team and being in a team that is really supportive.
Sam, Team Domenica candidate
Once a candidate has gained paid work, we provide ongoing support to candidates and employers to ensure that their employment is sustainable. Thanks to this support, 95% of candidates maintain their employment for one year or more.
It’s hard to describe how proud I am for getting a job. It’s something I never thought I’d achieve, and now it just feels so amazing.
Katie, Team Domenica candidate
Our programme of arts, music and sports-based activities supports candidates to develop the skills needed to lead a happy, fulfilled life – both within and outside of the workplace – including confidence, communication and their overall wellbeing. Last year, 98% of candidates reported feeling more confident, and 93% feel more independent.
The skills I have learned [during Enrichment] are being considerate, tolerant and kind. I like working with the other candidates…I feel less lonely and less isolated, because I’ve made more friends here than I ever have.
Charlie, Team Domenica candidate
Charles' Story
Charles left college, fearing he would never be accepted for who he is and had no chance at a future. But, after working closely with Team Domenica’s teachers and training mentors, his outlook took a turn for the better as he gained the work skills he needed and developed self-confidence in a supportive environment.
