Fundraising Heroes: Our runners at Brighton Marathon Weekend 2024

April 10, 2024 Posted in: News

On Sunday, Brighton was bustling with excitement as the population hit the streets for Brighton Marathon Weekend 2024. At the heart of this event were our Team Domenica runners. Together, they raised over £13,000 for our Wrap Around Programme. We’d like to say a huge congratulations and thank you to each and every one of these participants. It is because of supporters like you that we can continue creating futures for people with learning disabilities. Here are just some of their stories…

A snapshot of the BM10K

Our BM10k runners kickstarted the day with style. The family and friends of two Team Domenica candidates, Sam and Patrick (more on him later…), led the charge. They were joined by Jo from CoWomen, one of our esteemed charity partners, and India from DanceHub CIC – a community group that provide exciting and inclusive dance sessions for our candidates.

Also joining the team was Katie, whose older sister Sophie is part of our Day Service provision. The determination and passion of our runners showcased the power of our community. Together, they dashed their way through the streets and over the finish line.

Our Brighton Marathon runners

Michael stands holding his medal after finishing Brighton Marathon Weekend 2024. He is looking of camera and has a big grin on his face.

Meanwhile, over at Preston Park, our marathon team were just about the start. First up was Michael, a true fundraising hero and Team Domenica champion. In fact, this was his 5th run for us. That’s right, FIFTH! His unwavering dedication to our candidates has meant that, since his first race, Michael has raised over £6,000 for our programmes. What an incredible feat; thank you Michael.

On Sunday, Team Domenica candidate Patrick, and his cousin Charlie, were following close behind. Not only did he conquer the Brighton Marathon, but he’s also excelling in his supported internship at Queens Hotel Brighton. Congratulations Patrick!

Yusuf, a parent to one of our first-year candidates, also laced up his shoes and faced the Brighton Marathon. Preceding him was our very own production chef, Ben. Ben supports our candidates in designing and baking the products in our online shop. And his remarkable spirit led him to tackle his first-ever marathon this weekend. Despite having only trained up to 21 kilometres, Ben was determined to cross that finish line. Excitingly, he smashed his goals and finished the race with his staple smile!

Thank you to our fundraising heroes

As we celebrate Brighton Marathon Weekend 2024, we want to say a massive congratulations to all our runners. Your dedication means that our candidates can look forward to a future full of potential. We cannot thank you enough.

This year, our runners wore t-shirts sponsored by our friends at Redroaster. Thank you for all your support. If you’re a business that would like to hear more about our sponsorship opportunities for 2024 and 2025, please get in touch with theteam@teamdomenica.com.

Finally, we want to give a special shout out to Josh. After running for Team Domenica for the past two years, Josh hung up his trainers and joined us at our Café Domenica cheer station. He supported our runners and rallied the crowds with his encouragement and cool dance moves. Find out about more volunteering opportunities by contacting our team.
