Training begins at The North Star

After extensive planning and preparation, the candidates on our Day Opportunities provision have begun training at Brighton’s pub with purpose – The North Star. This exciting development will allow people with learning disabilities an autism to challenge misconceptions, build skills, and develop the confidence to thrive in the workplace, and beyond.

A Fresh Chapter for Day Opportunities at Team Domenica

At Team Domenica, we’re proud to continue evolving the way we support people with learning disabilities and autism. Our newly reimagined Day Opportunities programme (formerly known as Day Service) reflects that commitment – offering a personalised, structured, and skills-based approach that prepares candidates for meaningful, real-world experiences.

Designed for people aged 19 and over, with learning disabilities and/or autism, Day Opportunities focuses on building confidence, independence, and employability through hands-on training in community settings. From our cafés to our roastery and now pub, candidates gain practical skills while becoming valued members of vibrant local spaces.

A New Start at The North Star

We’re excited to share that our Day Opportunities candidates have officially begun their journey at The North Star pub. Over the past few weeks, Team Domenica staff have been refining our offer, and completing their own training, to ensure that we can provide the best possible provision for our candidates.

Now that training has begun, there is a real sense of energy and enthusiasm as everyone settles in. Our candidates have loved getting to grips with their new environment, learning hospitality skills, and working together as a team. Whether it’s welcoming customers, preparing food, pouring drinks, or supporting behind the scenes, everyone is building confidence step by step.

Enrichment and the Roastery Experience

Beyond day-to-day training, our enrichment sessions play a key role in supporting candidates’ personal development. This provision offers a wide range of activities designed to build confidence, communication skills, wellbeing, and independence – ensuring that learning goes far beyond the workplace.

A highlight for many of our Day Opportunities candidates is time spent in our roastery, where they are introduced to the craft that goes into speciality coffee. This space provides a unique environment where candidates can develop new skills and discover different career pathways.
