Supported Internship Employer Meetup

July 10, 2023 Posted in: News

Our employer partners are an integral part of a very important journey for our candidates and we want to thank them all for the incredible support and opportunities they have given our supported interns this year. It’s been wonderful to watch our candidates grow in confidence throughout the last seven months in their placements, and this success is a testament to the chance our employers have given them.

Last month, we hosted a meetup to say thank you to all of the amazing employers working with our supported interns this year. These employer partners are helping to create bright futures for young people with learning disabilities, and our candidates love working with their incredible teams.

With passionate talks from Rosa Monckton (Founder and Chairman), Becky Chan (Head of Supported Employment) and a group of our candidates, the event was an opportunity to celebrate supported internships and recognise the difference our employers are making. By working together, we are all part of something bigger – we are part of a movement for societal change.

People with learning disabilities want to work, and can work. There are a multitude of benefits to working with this group, and a supported internship is the perfect opportunity to help them reach their full potential. At Team Domenica, each placement is chosen based on the candidates interests and ambitions, and every young person is supported by an experienced job coach who works on-site with the candidate and employer to ensure their mutual success.

During our meetup, candidate Sam spoke about his experience as an intern at our partnered employer, Pizza Pilgrims:

“I used to find some things challenging, such as learning how to keep things together when things are getting tricky, [but] both Pizza Pilgrims and Team Domenica have given me the opportunity to show my skills… I love being part of the team”

His manager, also named Sam, then said:

“I’ve loved being able to give my time to Sam and focus on the benefits that this will provide him, rather than just the hustle and bustle of hospitality and the need to drive profit as a business.”

“Since starting with us, Sam has far exceeded my expectations and is now honestly one of our best team members. Guest feedback about him is fantastic too- he’s received more compliments via google reviews than nearly everyone in the company!”

“Everyone from Team Domenica has been super supportive throughout the whole process, from the job coach, regular reviews and the wider team. We’ve genuinely loved having Sam become part of our team and we cannot wait for our next intern!”
