Fundraisers smash their target

Pebble Brook School and local Santander employees raise vital funds for Team Domenica

Pebble Brook School, based in Aylesbury, serves 150 pupils with specific learning difficulties. They set out to raise £1,500 for Team Domenica with the help of local Santander employees. The funds raised will go towards essential travel costs for Team Domenica’s candidates and their accompanying job coaches.

Jackie Robson, Head of the FED at Pebble Brook School feels strongly about the cause she is fundraising for. “I am running to raise money for Team Domenica because I believe, as Rosa does, that all young people with learning disabilities deserve the chance of employment, especially if they are to become valued members of the community.

Jackie completed the Vitality London 10k run in May this year and her pupils and fellow teachers have raised funds by selling ice lollies, holding a mufti day and selling milkshakes through a school enterprise project. They have also undertaken group fundraising at a local Tesco store. Several Santander employees have also completed a 5k run at Aqua Vale Park.

Through all their tremendous efforts, together they have already exceeded the original target and raised a total of £1,969.50. Santander have agreed to match the funding up to £1,500.

These funds are crucial to the workplace support provided at Team Domenica. Many of our candidates are not yet independent travellers, which means they are unable to plan their routes or access and pay for public transport without our support. Team Domenica job coaches accompany candidates to their appointments, helping them to gain an increased level of independence by teaching them how to use pedestrian crossings, the green cross code and plan travel routes. This can mean the difference between securing a job, or being able to have a work placement.

The fantastic amount of money raised by Jackie Robson, Pebble Brook School and Santander employees, will have a real impact on the lives of Team Domenica’s candidates as they transition into employment.
