The Day Service develops employability skills through a variety of unique training opportunities
Day Service
Our Day Service provision is open to any young person with learning disabilities who is over the age of 19 and wants to increase their skills, gain confidence and make connections in a supported work-based setting.
The programme develops employability skills through supported work experience and enrichment activities. Watch this video to see what our candidates have to say.
Opportunities for candidates
Café Domenica
With the aim of getting candidates work-ready, our young people gain real-world hospitality experience at Café Domenica. Here they receive barista training and learn key skills such as money handling and customer service. Situated in the heart of Brighton, our cafés also educate the public on the benefits of working with people with learning disabilities.
Coffee Roastery
Our roastery is the only place in the UK that produces coffee crafted by young people with learning disabilities. From bean to bag, our candidates learn the whole process – roasting, labelling, packaging and sealing the coffee themselves. Through this pioneering project, they grow as individuals, gain essential experience and friendships.
Enrichment
Our enrichment programme utilises collaborative activities to build a candidate’s softer employability skills such as teamwork, wellbeing and communication. Many of our young people find this part of our training especially useful in making friends and developing their self-confidence.
Employability Job Club
Taking place in small groups, or as 1-1 mentoring, we offer personalised and innovative employability sessions that support our young people into paid work. Our job club helps candidates develop work-related skills such as writing a CV, applying for vacancies and executing interviews.
Lucy, Day Service Candidate
An amazing 96% of our candidates say they feel more confident as a result of our programmes.
Coming to Team Domenica has made me much more confident; I feel happier every day. I can now travel to work by myself and make coffees on my own. My favourite things to do are roasting the coffee, serving customers and doing the washing up. I know where everything goes.
