Team Domenica is a Brighton-based charity supporting young people with learning disabilities into paid employment. We create futures for the young people we support, helping them (our candidates) to discover their full potential, to live happy fulfilled lives, and to feel included within the local community.

Café Domenica provides in-house work placements to young people with learning disabilities and offers a perfect opportunity for them to learn new skills, build confidence and develop workplace knowledge in readiness for employment.

We are looking to recruit a Café Supervisor to join our team at Café Domenica, Preston Circus to support our Café Manager in the smooth and successful running of our café. The job will include preparing and serving a range of food and beverages and creating a welcoming space for new and returning customers.

We require someone who is an excellent cook, passionate about hospitality and also a strong communicator. We need someone with lots of energy and initiative who would be keen to work alongside our Education team to support our candidates in following a be-spoke training programme in the café.

Contract: Full time, Permanent, Contract, 5 days per week between Monday-Saturday
Salary: £25,500 per annum

Responsibilities and Duties

Main purposes of job

  • Support day-to-day operations in the Café including food preparation and customer service.
  • Ensure that the cafe is clean, well-stocked and well presented at all times.
  • Maintain high standards of quality in food, hygiene and customer experience.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare food and oversee the preparation and presentation of food by candidates.
  • Work with Café Manager to create and implement revenue generation initiatives including driving café sales, catering online business and social media engagement.
  • To monitor stock and to assist the Café Manager in ordering supplies.
  • Protect the health, safety and well-being of all staff and customers.
  • Take responsibility for the daily, weekly and monthly cleaning rota for the kitchen and café and upkeep the Food Safety (SFBB) diary daily.
  • Contribute to the weekly and monthly management of stock including a monthly stock take
  • Deputise for the Café Manager in their absence including opening and closing the site, taking responsibility for the team and café service.
  • Overseeing the timely provision of food and drinks to a consistently high standard whilst adhering to health and safety and food safety legislation.
  • Maintaining required records and effectively dealing with any customer complaints.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a supervisory role within the restaurant or catering industry.
  • Being Barista trained is an advantage but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of culinary techniques and food safety regulations.
  • A great cook with a friendly disposition and a passion to share their skills.
  • The ability to lead, motivate and support a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with customers and team members.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Health & Safety awareness (Level 2 Food Safety Certificate or willing to gain.)
  • Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities is preferable but not essential.
  • DBS check is required for this role prior to commencing employment.
