Job Description

Team Domenica is a social enterprise charity helping young adults with a learning
disability find and retain work in their local communities. As a Training Mentor, you will help Team
Domenica’s candidates discover their career potential, develop their workplace knowledge and
practical work skills in readiness for paid employment in line with our curriculum model, and develop
their confidence and independence as young adults in all our environments, including our day service.
You will also contribute to our unique training environment by working in our cafes and other venues,
and at our various events. Your work will be varied and flexible, and therefore a reflection of the
candidate journey at Team Domenica.

Contract type: Permanent or Fixed Term, Term-Time Only, 39 week academic term
Salary: £20,285 per annum TTO (FTE £24,000 per annum)
Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

• Consistently promote the wellbeing of candidates, by enacting relevant policies and by understanding your duties to follow all our safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Adhere to guidance and policy relating to health and safety
• Contribute to and follow all risk assessments
• Following all guidance on confidentiality and the handling of personal information
• Being a role model for professional, respectful, safe and positive communication and actions in the workplace
• Attending regular staff and one-to-one meetings as requested by the line manager
• Liaise regularly with staff, parents, employers, and external providers to maintain excellent communication and relationships
• Be open to your own learning and development in the role
• To undertake all mandatory training as identified by your line manager , specifically, but not limited to Safeguarding, Systematic Instruction and Food Hygiene– this may be in your own time or outside of normal work hours
• Demonstrate a flexible approach to your work, and the location in which you may need to work across our provision.

 

Specific Duties
• Your working week will be a mixture of regularly scheduled sessions, planned cover, and adhoc cover in response to operation needs.
• Under the instruction of the relevant Leads for Team Domenica and supervised by the relevant managers and teachers, oversee and carry out training sessions with candidates, helping them gain independence and confidence across all areas of our café curriculum, including barista, till, customer service, food preparation, and baking.
• Support individuals and small groups in the classroom, training, Day service, and enrichment environments according to plans devised by the teaching and training team and in line with the outcomes devised for each candidate.
• Use the ‘Systematic Instruction’ training method to train all candidates working in Café Domenica and the workplace.
• Contribute to all planning and recording documentation necessary including the setting of targets.
• Maintain awareness of Education, Health and Care Plans and contribute to regular reviews as required.
• Support candidates in external work experience placements, and where necessary cover for job coaches at supported internship placements.
• Support independent travel and pedestrian training for candidates.
• Deliver, support, and record bespoke interventions such as those devised by Speech and Language and occupational therapists.
• Monitor and evaluate candidates’ progress across settings.
• Provide pastoral support in line with plans and guidance written by the Team at Team Domenica.
• Support enrichment activities for candidates both on and off-site and encourage the use of these sessions to develop personal skills and growth.
• Create visual resources for learning and for making all necessary information accessible and effective.
• Support candidates at our Coffee Roasting/Training Site by training candidates to weigh/measure and package coffee and prepare orders for shipping.
• Be prepared to learn the basics of coffee roasting in order to train candidates.
• Under the direction of the pastoral lead provide mentoring to individual candidates so that they can overcome barriers to their journey through Team Domenica, learn to evaluate their own progress and development, and set targets for this.
• Contribute to ensuring our café provision is a welcoming and positive environment for customers.
• To protect the health, safety, and well-being of candidates, staff, and customers and show an
understanding of current legal requirements, especially with regards to food hygiene.
• To supervise and support candidates in preparing and serving food in a safe and hygienic manner.
• To support and train candidates to develop their skills to make coffee and other hot drinks.
• To support candidates in ensuring the cafés are clean, well-stocked, and well presented at all times, by supporting candidates to follow given schedules, plans and procedures.
• To ensure all financial transactions, including those carried out by candidates under supervision are carried out in line with guidance, policy, and training.
• On occasion, particularly during candidate holidays, support the operational needs of our café provision.
