Team Domenica is seeking a hard-working, dedicated, highly organised and professional Post Internship Officer to provide employment support, career guidance and mentoring to Team Domenica candidates who have completed our Supported Internship Programme to sustain paid work.

CONTRACT: Permanent, full time
SALARY: £28,000 gross per annum
ANNUAL LEAVE: 25 days holiday per annum plus 8 English bank and public holidays

Responsibilities and Duties

Employment support

  • Develop professional, collaborative relationships with employers to foster inclusive employment opportunities for young people.
  • Provide ongoing support, advice and training to employers, addressing any concerns related to workplace conduct or performance.
  • Supporting the young person to advocate for themselves if workplace issues arise
  • Support young people in workplace meetings, including progress reviews and disciplinary hearings when needed.
  • Negotiate reasonable adjustments and tailored job roles with employers, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Create and deliver relevant training to small or large staff teams and provide guidance to the employer on how to support our candidates.
  • Create and adapt workplace resources to enhance performance and promote independence.
  • Job Coach across the organisation where needed.

Careers guidance

  • Co-facilitate a job-seekers club to provide structured and peer-supported job search activities.
  • Assist young people in identifying suitable job vacancies and career pathways.
  • Provide one-to-one support in writing CVs, completing applications, and preparing for interviews.
  • Coach young people through interview processes and follow-up procedures.
  • Support prospective employers through inclusive recruitment practices and provide post-placement support.
  • Attend careers events and build a network of employer contacts to increase employment opportunities.
  • Offer professional, individualised careers advice, information, and guidance to mentees.

Pastoral support & safeguarding

  • Build trusting, meaningful relationships with a caseload of young people, ensuring continuity of support after completing their supported internships.
  • During their WRAP year, deliver weekly mentoring sessions to support young people in their employment settings to sustain or gain paid work.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for young people, their families, carers and other agencies offering ongoing support and guidance with regards to employment.
  • Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures and respond appropriately to any concerns or disclosures from young people, parents, carers, employers, and others.
  • Support manager to organise and oversee social activities to help young people maintain friendships and community connections.
  • Signpost individuals and families to external services and support networks, as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records of all interactions with young people and their support networks, including setting targets.
  • Support manager to organise and lead information sessions relating to WRAP provision for candidates, families, and partner organisations.
  • Support candidates in the application and management of Access to Work funding.

Requirements and Person Specification

Essential skills & knowledge

  • Experience and knowledge of working with young people with learning disabilities, within an education, employment, youth work, or social care context.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • A sound understanding of the barriers faced by people with learning disabilities in employment.
  • Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and social—with the ability to adapt language and tone to different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and motivate others.
  • Experience in delivering one-to-one mentoring, pastoral support, or personal guidance
  • Knowledge of supported employment models and some familiarity with reasonable adjustments and Access to Work.
  • Confidence in liaising with employers, families/carers, and professionals in a variety of settings.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a diverse and changing workload.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt diary accordingly at short notice.
  • Strong administrative skills, including record keeping, report writing, and Microsoft Office packages and Assistive Technology.
  • Highly professional, presentable and able to represent Team Domenica to employers, and local/ national businesses.

Desirable skills & knowledge:

  • Experience supporting young people with learning disabilities in the workplace. Job coach experience is preferred.
  • Experience liaising with employers and supporting inclusive recruitment or workplace adjustments.
  • Knowledge of Training in Systematic Instruction.
  • A full UK driver’s license and access to a car.

 

This role will be based predominantly at Brighton. Depending on their roles, our staff can be required to work on a range of different sites, including our main training centre, enrichment site, training cafés and employer’s premises.

Employment will be subject to the receipt of two satisfactory professional references and enhanced DBS certificate. Safeguarding Training will be given once the successful candidate begins their role.
