Job Description

We are looking for a Day Service Manager (one year maternity cover).

In this exciting role, you will make a positive impact on the lives of others. The ideal applicant will have a genuine desire to serve our candidates and be responsible for their safeguarding and pastoral wellbeing.

You will have strong leadership skills, ideally in a similar role or sector and the ability to inspire and motivate your team so previous experience supervising other is desirable.

You will develop and deliver our Pathways to Employment programme whilst overseeing our Day Service, a highly personalised work-based training programme for adults with a Learning Disability which is based across our different sites in Brighton and Hove.

CONTRACT:12-month Fixed Term contract (Maternity cover). Full-time, 40 hours per week.

DESIRABLE START DATE: Monday the 3rd of June 2024 (You might be required to start up to 4 weeks earlier for shadowing)

SALARY: £32,000

ANNUAL LEAVE: 25 days holiday per annum plus 8 English bank and public holidays.

LINE REPORTS: Coffee Manager & Seven Training Mentors

 

Responsibilities and Duties

Safeguarding & Pastoral

  • Responsible for the overall pastoral well-being of day service candidates including training staff to use emotional coaching techniques.
  • Responsible for the safer recruitment of new staff alongside HR.
  • To be willing to be DSL trained and responsible for the safeguarding of Day Service candidates – includes monitoring My Concern, resolving concerns and attending whole organisational safeguarding meetings.
  • To liaise with parents, carers, supported living organisations and other outside professional agencies when needed.

Leadership and Management

  • Providing support, regular 1-1 supervisions and annual appraisals for your staff team.
  • Working with the pastoral and DSL education lead to ensure the Training Mentor team have the relevant skills and training for their roles.
  • Supporting and empowering the staff team to problem solve, share ideas and use best practise to enable best outcomes for candidates.
  • To provide quarterly KPI Trustee reports and provide relevant data for BHCC Adult Social Care.
  • To maintain key relationships with our partners at BHCC Adult Social Care, attend events, share good practise and deliver presentations when requested.
  • Lead weekly team meetings.

Operations and Finance

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of over 30 plus Day Service candidates across sites.
  • To oversee the quality of candidate resources, activities and support plans across sites.
  • Plan, deliver and develop our Pathways to Employment programme which is in its first year of operation.
  • Be responsible for Health and Safety and Risk Assessments for candidates and staff on each day service site.
  • To manage staff timetables and daily cover for staff alongside the café manager and education pastoral lead.
  • Responsible for managing admission of candidates including liaising with outside agencies.
  • Responsible for setting up payments and managing the Day Service budget alongside accounts.

Requirements and Person Specification

Essential: The candidate must have prior experience of working with young people with a learning disability and /or autism, must be emotionally resilient, must be a team player and flexible. The candidate will strive to promote a positive working culture and be able to manage conflict constructively.

Preferred: Team Management experience, Supported Employment Training experience.

 

This role will be based across our sites, including our main training centre, enrichment site, training cafés and employer’s premises.
