1-1 Support Worker
Job title: Candidate 1-1 Support Worker
Reports to: Curriculum Manager
Team Domenica is a social enterprise charity helping young adults with a learning disability find and retain work in their local communities.
As 1-1 Support Worker you will help Team Domenica’s candidates to discover their career potential, to develop their workplace knowledge and practical work skills in readiness for paid employment.
The following section outlines a more detailed, but not exhaustive, description of the duties pertinent to this post.
Responsibilities and duties
Overall
- Attend regular staff meetings as requested by line manager
- Provide daily pastoral support to the candidate.
- Contribute to the candidate’s bespoke education and training programme.
- Liaise regularly with staff, parents, employers and external providers to maintain excellent communication.
- Provide an individual weekly timetable either visual or written, to the candidate you support.
- To establish a supportive relationship with the candidate.
- Monitor and evaluate candidate progress.
- Keep candidates safe and adhere to the charity’s Safeguarding Policy.
- To ensure all candidates are treated with equal respect, compassion and given positive behaviour strategies when needed.
- Work as part of a team and have a flexible approach.
- Discuss targets and progress with the curriculum manager.
- Complete a weekly report using the Team Domenica format.
- Deliver SALT and OT as directed by therapy staff.
- To undertake all mandatory training as identified by line manager – this may be in your own time or outside of normal work hours
Classroom Training
- Lead and run 1-1 sessions with the candidate you support, as directed by the training leader.
- Set termly SMART targets in line with EHCP outcomes
- Creating visual training resources where appropriate for use at Team Domenica and for the workplace.
- Support the candidate in the Enrichment/Afternoon programme.
Café Training
- To use the ‘Systematic Instruction’ training method to train all candidates working in Café Domenica.
- To support the candidate in learning barista skills, till training and customer service skills.
- Create individual resources for candidates and monitor their progress
- Ensure candidates adhere to food hygiene standards
- Food hygiene and Barista training will be given where necessary
Workplace Support
- To support candidates in external work experience placements.
- To promote independence and self-advocacy in the workplace.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with employers.
- Support independent travel and pedestrian training to candidate.
Requirements and Person Specifications
- Knowledge and experience of working with young people with ASC, SLD and MLD
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Ability to keep accurate reports
- Working knowledge of MS Office
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving ability
- Respect to diversity
- Safeguarding awareness
- Prevent, safeguarding & first training will be provided on an annual basis.
Salary: £12 per hour
Working hours: 29.5 hours per week
Contract type: Term-Time Only – 41 weeks term
Contract length: One academic year September 2023 to July 2024
Start date: 4th September 2023
